However, we do have a number of roller blinds that are moisture proof, specifically made for such environments, simply ask our Sales Executive about them. Should roller blinds be able to touch the window sill? To ensure the least amount of light leakage, it is preferrable that roller blinds rest on the window sill when fully extended. Can you see through roller blinds from the outside? No, people will not be able to see anything from the outside, even at night. How long will roller blinds take to install? A single roller blind should take around 5-10 minutes to install. How long should roller blinds last? Made to measure roller blinds should easily last 10 years if they are well maintained and not subject to damp conditions. Ready made blinds will typically only last 2-5 years. Should roller blinds be fitted inside or outside the window recess? We recommend that most blinds are fitted within the recess of the window, with the exception of Roman blinds. • Free Site Survey Service | Raynesway Blinds

Experience a comprehensive and free site survey for blinds, shutters, and awnings. Our experts ensure precise measurements for a perfect fit and installation. Our free blinds, shutters and awnings survey Find all the information about our free blinds, shutters and awnings measuring survey here, from what to expect to how best to prepare for it. When it comes to enhancing your home's aesthetics, privacy, and energy efficiency, selecting the right blinds, shutters, or awnings is crucial. A professional survey is an essential first step to ensure that the chosen window solutions fit perfectly and meet your functional needs. Here's a detailed look at what happens during such a survey and how to prepare for it. The Survey Process Initial Consultation: The process usually begins with an initial consultation where the surveyor discusses your needs, preferences, and any specific requirements you might have. This could include discussing the style, material, color, and functionality of the blinds, shutters, or awnings. Measurement and Assessment: Accurate measurements are the cornerstone of a successful installation. The surveyor will measure the height, width, and depth of your windows or the area where the awnings will be installed. This ensures a precise fit and helps in identifying any potential challenges, such as uneven surfaces or obstructions. Evaluating Mounting Options: The surveyor will assess the best mounting options based on your window structure and your preferences. For example, they will decide whether inside or outside mounts are more suitable for your blinds or shutters. For awnings, they will check the structural integrity of the mounting surface to ensure it can support the installation. Inspecting Environmental Factors: For awnings, the surveyor will also consider environmental factors such as sun exposure, wind conditions, and potential obstructions like trees or neighbouring buildings. This helps in recommending the best type and material of awning that can withstand local weather conditions. Discussing Customization: During the survey, you can discuss specific details such as slat sizes for blinds, louver sizes for shutters, or fabric types for awnings. The surveyor may also provide samples to help you visualize the final product. Providing a Quote: After completing the measurements and assessments, the surveyor will provide you with a detailed quote. This typically includes the cost of the products, customization, and any additional features you might have requested. Scheduling the Installation: If you decide to proceed, the next step is to schedule the installation. The surveyor will coordinate with you to find a convenient time and discuss any preparatory steps you might need to take before the installation team arrives. How to Prepare for a Survey Clear the Area: Ensure that the areas around your windows or the potential awning installation site are clear of furniture, decorations, and other obstructions. This allows the surveyor easy access to take accurate measurements and make thorough assessments. Know Your Preferences: Have a clear idea of what you want in terms of style, colour, and material. Look through catalogues or online galleries to get a sense of your preferences. This will make the consultation process smoother and more productive. Consider Functional Needs: Think about the primary purpose of your window solutions. Are you looking for enhanced privacy, improved insulation, or light control? For awnings, consider whether you need them for shade, rain protection, or aesthetic enhancement. Knowing your needs helps the surveyor make more tailored recommendations. Identify Any Issues: If there are any specific issues with your windows or the installation area, such as drafts, moisture problems, or structural concerns, make a note of them. This information can help the surveyor suggest the most suitable solutions. Prepare Questions: Write down any questions or concerns you have about the products or the installation process. This is your chance to get expert advice and ensure that all your needs and doubts are addressed. Conclusion A blinds, shutters, and awnings survey is a comprehensive process designed to ensure that your window solutions are a perfect fit for your home. By understanding what to expect and preparing adequately, you can make the most of this professional service, resulting in a smooth installation and a beautiful, functional outcome for your living space.

  • Enhancing Safety & Comfort: Our Work with the Royal School for the Deaf Derby

We worked with the Royal School for the Deaf Derby to enhance their learning environment by providing high-quality blinds that improve both comfort and security. Our installation covered multiple rooms, ensuring compliance with fire safety regulations while also supporting the school’s unique needs, such as maintaining visibility for visual alarms. By working closely with the school, we helped create a safer, more adaptable space for students and staff. We recently had the pleasure of connecting with Paul Burrows from the Royal School for the Deaf Derby regarding his recent purchase of our blinds. We wanted to hear his insights on our products and service firsthand. WHY DID THE ROYAL SCHOOL FOR THE DEAF DERBY CHOOSE RAYNESWAY BLINDS? The Royal School for the Deaf Derby chose Raynesway Blinds because of their long-standing relationship, reliable customer service, competitive pricing, and expertise in providing high-quality, fire-retardant blinds . The school needed blinds not only for standard purposes like controlling sunlight but also as part of their security measures to enhance student and staff safety . Given the unique considerations of a school for deaf students, such as the need for visual alarms, Raynesway Blinds provided tailored solutions that met both safety and accessibility requirements . The team there offer good customer service, they are reliable and competitive on pricing. We also value the fact that we feel we are more than just a client to them. Paul Burrows, Headteacher WHY ARE BLINDS HELPFUL TO STUDENT AND STAFF SAFETY? Blinds contributed to student and staff safety in several ways: Security & Privacy – Blinds can act as a visual barrier, preventing potential threats from seeing inside classrooms, which can be crucial in lockdown situations or other security incidents. Emergency Preparedness – Many schools now practice lockdown drills as part of their safety protocols. Blinds help create a safer environment by limiting visibility from outside during these drills or real emergencies. Controlled Environment – By reducing glare and regulating natural light, blinds create a more comfortable learning environment, which can improve focus and well-being for students and staff. Fire Safety Compliance – Schools are required to use fire-retardant materials. High-quality blinds, like those installed by Raynesway Blinds, meet these regulations, adding an extra layer of safety. Tailored to Specific Needs – In schools like the Royal School for the Deaf, blinds must work alongside visual alarms to ensure students are aware of emergency alerts, making them a crucial part of overall safety planning. The recent government guidance on school security has prompted many institutions to rethink their safety measures. The Royal School for the Deaf Derby’s proactive approach - balancing security with the well-being of students and staff - resonates deeply with our mission. To clean the frame, simply wipe it with a damp cloth dipped in mild detergent; avoid using a scouring pad to prevent scratching. For the fabric cover, use warm, soapy water and a sponge. Regular cleaning is essential, ideally every two weeks, especially in coastal areas or with a storage cover to shield against saltwater. Avoid washing the cover or valance in the washing machine, as this may compromise the waterproofing. How far does the awning open? That depends on the width of the awning. Generally, up to a 3m wide awning, it's maximum projection is about 0.5m less than the width. Any awnings above 3m have a maximum projection of around 1m less than the width. How much do awnings slope down? Awnings can be sloped to any angle from 15-35 degrees and can be anywhere between this to suit you. How high should an awning be placed? The suggested mounting height is 2.5m/3.5m above the ground. If considering a lower installation, ensure ample headroom when the awning is fully extended, and confirm that doors or windows can open freely. The vertical dimension of the fixing bracket measures approximately 20cm. Additionally, our awnings offer a good amount of versatility; they can be mounted to eaves or a horizontal surface using a ceiling/balcony bracket. Can awnings be installed on brickwork? Yes, however, if they have older bricks or reconstituted brickwork that isn't as sturdy as standard masonry, they may require the a resin kit. Furthermore, they really should not be drilled into mortar. Can awnings be installed on breeze blocks? The feasibility will depend on the type of breeze blocks they possess. If they have low or medium density blocks, installation may not be possible. However, with high-density breeze blocks, it should be feasible, provided they use a resin kit. Can awnings be installed on plasterboard? Absolutely not, the structure is far too weak for the weight of an awning. Can awnings be installed on hardwood? Indeed they can, but we would use coach bolts instead of expansion bolts. Additionally, structural timber would be the preferred choice. Can awnings be installed on softwood? Absolutely not! The structure of the wood is too weak for the awning weight. Can awnings be installed on wall render? Certainly, installation is feasible if there's minimal render, typically between 1-10mm, and solid brickwork or hardwood lies behind the render for the expansion bolts/coach bolts to anchor into securely. It's important to trim back the render where the brackets are to be installed because render may have irregularities, and failure to smooth it down may result in uneven installation of the awning. Can awnings be installed on pebble dashing? Unfortunately not; the pebble dashing would make it very unlikely to get the awning level. Can awnings be installed on metalwork? While it is possible with welding or some industrial-grade components; we do not offer installation into metalwork.

Get in touch with Raynesway Blinds and enhance your home's interior with vertical blinds. EXPLORE OUR FAQ Are vertical blinds old fashioned? Vertical blinds don't really go out of fashion per se, they actually are quite resilient in that they rapidly evolve to stay current with the current fashion. Currently we employ a variety of new materials and technology that keeps them current and relevant with the times. Furthermore, we have eco-friendly materials that are also sustainable and these also help to keep them desirable. What are the disadvantages of vertical blinds? They can be noisy when the wind blows through them and with the louvres moving about, it can impede privacy and light control. How long should vertical blinds last? Made to measure vertical blinds should easily last around 7-8 years if they are well maintained and not subject to damp conditions. Can you replace the slats on a vertical blind? Yes! If the original style and material is still available then you can replace just the slats you need to, but if not, we can simply replace all the slats, which would be cheaper than replacing the whole blind and the control mechanisms and weights and chains, etc. Assuming they are still in good condition. Do vertical blinds look cheap? Only if you use cheap materials! Good quality components and materials for vertical blinds can really transform a room from looking tired to looking modern, stylish and productive. Are vertical blinds better than Venetian blinds? Both have their places and both have pros and cons in different places. Venetian blinds are a bit more maintenance than Vertical blinds, but then they don't blow about quite as much when the window is open. You wouldn't use Venetians for very large windows either, the strain that is applied to the control mechanisms could be too much for very large installations, whereas vertical blinds are perfect for large windows and are much more controllable in those places too. How far off the windowsill should a vertical blind be? Typically vertical blinds are fitted with around a 3cm clearance at the bottom, though this can be lower. A clearance is always made though to prevent wear damaged when opening and closing the blinds. How long will vertical blinds take to install? A single vertical blind should take around 10-15 minutes to install. What are the advantages of vertical blinds? They are great for covering large windows or sliding glass doors, easy to control and are very easy to maintain and clean. Want to learn more about blinds? LEARN MORE

Even if your prospective buyers don't intend to keep the blinds, they still enhance the overall aesthetics and consequently, the market value of your home. Are Venetian blinds more expensive that curtains? Venetian blinds are typically cheaper than curtains. This is because curtains require a lot of fabric, while a Venetian blind is mostly just slats of lightweight material. Should Venetian blinds sit on the windowsill? Indeed, to optimize the effectiveness and achieve the desired visual outcome, it's recommended that Venetian blinds be positioned to rest on the windowsill. How long will Venetian blinds take to install? A single Venetian blind should take around 10-15 minutes. Should Venetian blinds be face up or down? Angle the slats upward to retain warmth, enhance privacy, and block out light effectively. Conversely, angle the slats downward to allow cool air circulation and filter sunlight into the room, depending on the sun's position and the slats' angle. Want to learn more about blinds?
